I made a lot of progress on flowers over the past 2 days. This one is my favorite. I love the way the pink/green print really connects the flower to the stem.
This was my progress by the end of Saturday.
And by the end of Sunday, I can almost declare this section done. (Just 3 leaves to go)
But there's another weekend worth of leaves to be done on the right 2/3 of the panel.
I don't have Photoshop so my photo splicing is really rough, but this is kind of where I think I'm going. I want some open space in the middle balance out all the vines. I'm considering trying some trapunto. If I extend the vines under the bird to the lower right corner, and same from the circle vine going toward the upper left, I'd end up with a 15" x 30" rectangle in the center.
I'm open to suggestions. What would you do with the center?

The shading done with your pinks and reds gives such depth to your applique.
A group of pieced blocks. maybe a trellis. I just happen to have some hot pink and lime green batiks if you're running short.
I like the blank quilting idea, and I did think of a trellis, specifically woven and wild. A woven basket design would work, too. For either you'd have to decide on a directional placement based on whether you want that climbing vine to the right or left when you finish (and I assume this is a wallhanging, correct me otherwise). But if not, then I would stick with something non-directional, such as a wild rose tangle that isn't already used. I'm a total pushover for a feathered circle and could see it done with a long tapered leaf design that protrudes (like a bay leaf wreath, sorta).
I have never done trapunto, not because I don't like its look but because I don't love the stiffness it adds to the work. I am all about drape in my projects, it's just a thing with me. I don't think it would bother me at all in a wallhanging, though. The only thing I would consider there is some shadow trapunto, in which you use screamingly bright (ie neon) yarn to stuff the design so that a shadow of color shows through. Typically this would be done with batiste as the overlay, but I can't really get a feel for whether there is any sheerness to your WOW background.
I'm really loving the final border on this. Will it be pieced sawtooth as shown, or appliqued dogtooth? I've always wanted to try the dogtooth because you can make it long and spiky. Either one pleases me with a rose quilt, though...it's reminscent of thorns and the angles contrast so nicely with the curves.
