Progress & Give Away

Guitar Girl graduates in August, so I decided I better get back to this Joseph's Coat project and get it finished.  I've been doing this as a quilt-along that Kellie organized at Don't Look Now.  As you can see, I'm still arranging, and re-arranging to try to distribute the colors.  I left the final 4 blocks without their outer row so that when I'm happy with the rest of the lay-out, I can custom place colors on a few blocks.  In case you haven't been following my blog...scrap quilts make me anxious.  I really like to have control of the colors, so this project has been a real challenge to me.

I actually had a great batik collection before I started this quilt.  Some of my favorite smaller pieces got used up.  Some of the bigger pieces I'm really tired of.  My goal is to finish the top by the end of May and then celebrate the way that real bloggers do, with a GIVE AWAY!  I'm going to cut 5" charm squares from the remaining fabrics (and throw in a few I've collected recently).  Leave a comment on this post by June 7th describing what you would do with a packet of batik charm squares in these colors.  Blog & link to this post and/or join as a follower for extra chances to win.  And to keep your odds high, I'll add charm packs to the prize vault as the number of entries increase.

I would love to make a flower wall hanging in these colours. Your stash manicure post was great. Thanks for all of the advice.

I would add them to my collection of batik charms of course!

Oh, you want an idea of what we would actually DO with them? OK. You used some of my favorite colors for your quilt, so I'd say I'd use the charms to make either a mini half log cabin quilt or a small drunkards path quilt. Both are on my "want to make" list of quilts.

I'm wanting to do a pinwheel quilt with my batik scraps. So, I would make half squares triangles. :) I haven't decided whether to use gray, black or maybe a yellow background... ( I have used light purple with my batiks before and also a cloud like blue as a background)
Your quilt is beautiful.

Hi, and thanks for the giveaway. I am in the progress of making several applique quilts for the trunkshow I am planning next spring. I would be delighted to add these into those projects, and then they might get to travel to exciting places far and near!!!!

..... do they give frequent flyer mileage to charm squares??

thanks

Batiks are my favorites for applique, I would probably use scraps in my next floral applique project!

LOL. You are so much like me. I love applique and not really into piecing. Love your Joseph's Coat. I have the instructions and drafted my pattern, but still have to start it. Love your colors.

Congratulations on your achievement- you are nearly there! Took a lesson with Kellie and got an up-close look at the antique Joseph's Coat that belonged to Jenny, but not game to start Joseph's Coat until I finish some other projects. What would I do with your giveaway? Just stroke them until they told me which project - maybe Kellie's Lilly Pilly or Meg's Garden quilt - have both the patterns!

I have been collecting these colors to make a reversible quilt-as-I-go bed cover for a king-size bed. I am currently practicing the reversible quilt-as-I-go on a lap-size project to make sure that I can do it. Your charm squares would add variety to the bed cover, which will feature many different florals - pieced, applique, a little embroidery, who knows?

Those are gorgeous colors. It would depend on how many squares I received, but I think they would make a wonderful purse. THe quilt is wonderful.

I found your blog through Stash Manicure. I quite like doing applique with batiks, so I have quite a few in my stash, I just love the colours and patterns. I would use some of them to make bags, and others I would use to make notebook covers with some free-motion quilting.

Oooh, I didn't notice the giveaway before. I blame that incredible Hawaiian quilt for distracting me. Love the color variety and pattern of this one, too.

I love batiks and I think I would use them to make another disappearing 9 patch quilt. Batiks are just so much fun.
I love your challenge quilt too. The Joseph's Coat is a wonderful quilt.
Thanks for hosting such a nice giveaway.

Your JC is looking great! I still have a ways to go with mine as I've only got about 20 blocks done. Your batiks are scrumptious! I'd use them in a simple irish chain quilt with a white background. The size of the quilt would depend on the number of the squares received.

Your joseph's coat quilt is going to be stunning. I would probably use the batiks in a quilt for this years Hoffman Challenge.

Marjorie, I LOVE your Joseph's Coat! I've been wanting to do a Joseph's Coat myself, but would have never thought to use batiks - BRILLIANT! If I won a charm pack of these I'd probably combine them with my other batik scraps and do a similar Joseph's Coat, maybe using black instead of white for the inner part.

Hi, have been wanting to make myself a pinwheel quilt, but I am on a fixed income and my stash is yard sale finds, which is great but I really like batiks. I really love all the fabrics I see on these blogs.you have done a fantastic job.

your quilts have so inspired me that i think i really, really need to try doing some applique and batiks would be so pretty done that way. i love ladybugs, hearts and flowers, so would have to include some of those, plus probably a flamingo for the little joke hubby and i have had about them for about 20 years or so. a very nice giveaway--thanks for giving us an opportunity to win them

Your progress on Joseph's Coat is wonderful, you're really getting there quickly! I'm impressed with your skills. I dropped out fairly early - it's definitely beyond my range. maybe someday...

In the meantime, your colors are beautiful. I think pinwheels or bowties would look great with these batiks!

Your quiltalong blocks are really beautifull. I really like batiks, that's why I started to make the Civil War diary quilt from batik fabric. So that is what I should use the charm squares for.

Good luck with finishing your top.
I came here from Joosje's weblog.
